glugg problems

Looks like my provider is having network problems at the moment, will update when I know more.

  1. Apparently the provider is having a DDoS attack. For your delectation I post below the live web chat I had with one of their "support" people. Suffice to say there will be a post on glugg when it's back asking for new colo providers ><

You are now chatting with VRTServers Support (Support Department)

    VRTServers Support: Hello,
redbaron: Hi there - are there network problems at the moment? Having trouble getting to either my server or the remote reboot port
    redbaron: 74.222.1.216 is my server
VRTServers Support: Let me check for you.
redbaron: http://64.56.72.32/ is remote reboot and I can't get to that either. Other internet sites are fine, and I've tried from several places
    redbaron: thanks
redbaron: I did manage to get to the web admin page, and it shows all my bills are paid :)
VRTServers Support: Please send an e-mail to support@vrtservers.net with your password since we need this on record while we check.
    redbaron: the system root password?
    redbaron: I'd rather not
redbaron: the APC being down too would suggest a network problem, rather than a server config problem
VRTServers Support: Its ok if you don't want to send the password, just send the e-mail asking to check server down and can't reach apc.
redbaron: www.vrtservers.net is now down from the UKS too
redbaron: ok, is there a ticket ID I need to include or will you see it?
    redbaron: UKS = UK
redbaron: I can intermittently reach my server now, but it's really slow
VRTServers Support: We will be able to get a ticket number from the e-mail.
    redbaron: OK, one moment
VRTServers Support: It is probably your ISP since we have no network issues at the moment. However I already sent the command to reboot your server so it might be down for a moment.
redbaron: I've tried from ISPs in Japan too
    redbaron: you rebooted it???
redbaron: please don't do that, I have modelling software running
    redbaron: tell me you didn't
    redbaron: email sent btw
redbaron: checked from 2 UK ISPs and one Japan ISP
redbaron: so it's not my ISP
redbaron: did you reboot my server?
VRTServers Support: It was too late, you wanted to access the APC I figure to try and reboot so we rebooted for you already.
    redbaron: ><
redbaron: ok, bit annoyed about that, but I guess we move on
redbaron: I tried the APC to see if it was your network or my isp
redbaron: everything pointed to your network, please ask before doing stuff like that again ok?
redbaron: just lost an 8-hour modelling run
    redbaron: any other ideas?
VRTServers Support: I'm sorry that is why we rather do this through e-mail than chat.
redbaron: easier to ask me "shall I reboot" on chat, no?
    redbaron: anyway, it's done
redbaron: still need the server back up
redbaron: no email back yet with a ticket number
redbaron: and yes, I've just sent myself a test email from gmail to make sure my email is working, before you ask
redbaron: APC port still not accessible from Japan or UK, I don't have any other places I can test from
redbaron: Have you got the support email yet?
VRTServers Support: We will investigate and e-mail you when complete while we check on the situation.
redbaron: OK, thanks for the help so far
redbaron: got a ticket number now - YDQ-570720 and it's saying closed
    redbaron: and low priority
redbaron: server and APC still unavailable
    redbaron: can you explain please?
VRTServers Support: It is not closed and it is not low priority, it was like that because we were in a hurry to reply.
redbaron: OK, as long as you're still working on it
VRTServers Support: We are working on the situation, it looks like we are having a DDoS attack. I will need to get off chat right now and help them work on this situation.
redbaron: sure - thanks for letting me know you do have a network problem after all
    redbaron: best of luck
